History of Reflexology

The origins of reflexology date back to Ancient Egypt, India and China with techniques for working on the feet and hands being found in hieroglyphics and ancient texts. The earliest indication dates back to Ancient Egypt 2500 BC in the Tomb of the Physician Ankhamahor, located in the necropolis of Saqqara suggesting reflexology was practiced in ancient times.

Today, modern reflexology continues to use some of these techniques along with methods developed through research that begun in the 19th century with Dr William Fitzgerald. He developed a new system of ten zones running vertically from the top of the head to the tips of the toes and fingers. He mapped out these zones calling his findings 'Zone Therapy' which is how reflexology was known until the 1960s.
